Just the one rotor for Tucano

The first combine to use cylinder threshing and a single separation rotor has been developed by Claas to suit mixed enterprise farms that like the output potential of rotary technology but also want to bale their straw. The Tucano Hybrid System rotor has a bigger diameter – it measures 570mm in diameter – than the twin rotors used in Lexion models; this, together with slower rotation speeds, is said to preserve straw condition. Only the 365hp Tucano 480, the more powerful of two models, is destined for Britain, says Claas UK sales manager Jeremy Wiggins. "It's aimed at growers interested in rotary technology for its output potential with around 1700 acres of combinable crops," he says. "The 480 will have a performance edge over the straw walker Tucanos, which we launched for the 2008 harvest." Another Claas newcomer, the four-walker 198hp Avero 240, slots in beneath the Tucano range but uses high-tech features to give 100 to 500-acre growers performance characteristics of the bigger machines.
