Agritechnica medals - Clean sweep for the Germans

Agritechnica medals - Clean sweep for the Germans

The international nature of Agritechnica continues. Three shows ago in 2013, exhibitors from outside of Germany accounted for 52% of the total. This figure grew to 56% at Agritechnica 2015, and this November the number of foreign exhibitors has risen to 1,700 (59%).

Given the increasing foreign exhibitor presence, it is a bit odd that German companies continue to wipe the board when it comes to the innovation awards. The 320+ innovations submitted for this year’s awards came in from 175 exhibitors from 24 countries, yet German companies won the two gold medals and 22 of the 29 silver medals. Similarly, two years ago, all five gold medals were won by German firms, which also secured most the 44 silver medals. Is German technology really so superior to the rest of the world?

With 2,800+ exhibitors (53+ countries), the Hannover fairgrounds are fully booked for this November’s show, and show organiser DLG (German Agricultural Society) confidently expects 400,000+ visitors (100,000 international). These impressive figures confirm the position of the event as the world’s leading trade fair for agricultural machinery and equipment. However, while international companies and visitors are welcome in Hannover, the Max Eyth evening, which puts the innovation award medal winners under the spotlight, is going to be a true German party.
