Agritechnica: Claas delivers a baby ag tractor

It was not all about the big stuff for Claas at Agritechnica. The massive Xerion 4500 and 5000 may have grabbed most of the Hanover headlines, yet there was still plenty of visitor interest in the unveiling of the baby Elios, which slots in below the Axos in the company's tractor line-up.
There are three Elios models, all with a Fiat four-cylinder engine under the bonnet developing 72hp, 78hp and 88hp respectively.
More compact than its Axos sibling, the Elios stands just 2.4m high and is offered in either two- or four-wheel-drive format. On top of that, there are four transmission options: a straight 12-speed mechanical box (c/w mechanical shuttle); a 12-speed mechanical box with a splitter that doubles the number of ratios to 24; a 24-speed mechanical shuttle box with Twinshift two-step powershift; and a 24-speed unit with a powershuttle.
The tractor's standard pto spec brings 540 and 1,000rpm speeds, although the latter can be substituted for 540E. At the rear, the TCE electronically controlled linkage is capable of hoisting 3,100kg.
Expect to see the Elios make its way to the UK in late spring.
