AGRITECHNICA: Wraps off for 440hp Deutz-Fahr

At Agritechnica 2011, Same Deutz-Fahr announced it had begun work on the company’s most powerful ever tractor. Dubbed the 440HP Project, the clock was ticking and timed to stop at Agritechnica 2013.

True to its word, as the clock stopped, the wraps were removed earlier this week at the Hannover Fairgrounds. Unveiled in preview form, the Italian-styled result 11440 TTV produces a whopping 440hp.

The flagship in the new three-model 11 Series, the 11440 is not only the most powerful Deutz-Fahr tractor so far, but for now also leaves the competition behind in the horsepower stakes. Supporting a brand new five-post cab, which provides enough space for two full-size seats, other features include an innovative ABS braking system, while the new tractor was previewed on Michelin’s new IF900/65R46 AxioBib RCI 50 tyres – the largest currently available.

The 11 Series is the first to take ZF’s newly-developed Terramatic TMG 45 CVT, which reaches a maximum speed of 50 or 60km/hr at 1,700 rpm.

In the engine department the company has teamed up with MTU, power coming from a 12.8lit Stage IV SCR engine. MTU also supplies the power in the two ‘smaller’ models – the 11350 (350hp) and 11400 (400hp), which take a 10.7lit engine.

There is no point getting your cheque book out just yet because the new flagship is unlikely to go on sale until the next Agritechnica 2015.

When it does go into production it will be built at Lauingen, Germany, but then following a €75 million spend on new and state-of-the-art manufacturing activities. When finished sometime late 2016/early 2017, the plant will be able to make up to 16,000 tractors (from 6 Series upwards) a year.
