Wagons roll for Pöttinger

Pöttinger is set to unveil a number of new features for its forage wagon line-up together with new models at Agritechnica. An in situ automatic knife sharpening system for the Jumbo models is being introduced. When used intensively the cutting edge can start to dull over a long working day increasing the power requirement by as much as 20% especially if the forage is contaminated with stones. The current system calls for the blades to be removed so they can be sharpened in the workshop. On the new automatic system the knife bank is lowered and the grinding process engaged. The grinding disc then works its way across the knife bank and on the 45 knife Jumbo the whole process takes in the region of 4 minutes. Pöttinger has also been working with John Deere to develop a system where the tractor forward speed is automatically regulated depending on the size of the swath. Winning a Silver medal at Agritechnica the intelligent loader wagon combination uses a sensor bar mounted on the front of the tractor to measure the swath density. This information is then fed into the onboard computer along with the load on the rotor and how much space is left in the trailer. Output is said to increase by 10% compared to a system that relies on the operator to set the forward speed. Other benefits are said to be less risk of blocking or overloading the wagon. Although maybe not suitable for these shores Pöttinger is also introducing a massive 47.3 m3 (DIN standard) wagon. The Jumbo 10010 Combiline uses trindem axle running gear and is suitable for tractors up to 450hp.
