Tractor manufacturer Versatile now has a self-propelled sprayer in its armoury thanks to acquiring Minnesota based Red Ball after it went into financial trouble last year. The firm has quickly taken the Red Ball 7830 and replaced the John Deere engine with a 275hp Cummins QSB 6.7 litre motor which it uses in its tractors.
Canadian website producer.com also reports that the Versatile SX275 switches to a Raven 4400 controller with the option of upgrading to the Enviso system on the US$239,000 sprayer.
“We build farm equipment, we don’t need to build engines, drives and many of the components. Other manufacturers’ best products mean that we can concentrate on keeping our machines and our manufacturing simple,” explains Versatile’s Adam Reid. “The Red Ball was built that way already, so we were able to make it ours without a lot of other modifications. It even had our look already, we just had to change the colour.”
The two-wheel drive SX275 sticks with an Allison five-speed auto transmission, Fairfield heavy-duty drop boxes, JCB diffs, air bag suspension and Henschen boom suspension. Boom widths are 24.6m to 36.9 with a 4,540-litre capacity stainless steel main tank and 454-litre wash tank. |
