Test drive machines at Dairy Show

Test drive machines at Dairy Show

The RABDF will claim another ‘first' for the Dairy & Livestock Show this year when visitors will not only be able to kick tyres but also drive some of the tractors being exhibited. "Like the one-off loader demonstration staged last year, we're always looking to provide something new and useful," says event manager Richard Evans. "We think it's the first time that visitors can test drive at a show like this." The emphasis will be on tractors for handling routine operations on a livestock farm, which often will involve powering a diet feeder of the type also being put through their paces at the show. "The viewing gantry gives a chance to get a clear view of the machines at work and then compare the resulting feed by inspecting the sample boxes," Mr Evans explains. "It's a unique opportunity to see several machines working in close proximity." The Dairy & Livestock Show has grown out of the Dairy Event to take a broader view of the ruminant sector. There are dairy, beef and commercial goat sections, as well as livestock business and diversification areas. It's scheduled for September 16 & 17 at the National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh – but in 2010 moves to the NEC, Birmingham, establishing another ‘first' for an agricultural event.
