Long range bird scarer from Lishman Jan 4, 2010 #755
Long range bird scarer from Lishman
The latest bird scarer from Martin Lishman emits the sound of a bird in distress and can clear species such as pigeons in an area up to 3.2km away. Originally developed for airfields and land fill sites the standard solar powered unit can produce calls from pigeons, starlings, crows and rooks but owners can select distress calls from a library of over 60 species.

The Scarecrow Compact can operate 24 hours per day, seven days a week or from dawn to dusk and the sound is said to be unobtrusive to humans. As well as keeping targeted species at bay Lishman says they have found there is also an increase in Red Kite numbers on the look-out for easy prey.

“We tried the crow sound in the wheat, and birds 2 miles away lifted and became agitated,” says Justin Stafford who farms at Little Bytham, near Stamford, Lincs. “In the rape the pigeon sound completely cleared 400 birds and they have stayed in the wood ever since. Even my neighbour’s rape was left alone.”

The Scarecrow Compact is said to have 360º coverage and as well as the solar powered version there are battery and mains powered models as well.
