As well as updating its high-hp tractors, John Deere is also extending its small ‘5' series offering to include 5M, 5G and 5E lines. All have a lower entry-level spec than the existing 80-100hp 5R. Targeting livestock and mixed farms, the 70-100hp 5M series is powered by a turbocharged Tier III 4.5-litre PowerTech M engine. Transmission options run to 16F/16R Sync Reverser, 16F/16R Power Reverser and clutchless HiLo 32F/16R Power Reverser Plus, all with twin lever shifting. Prices start at £34,920 for an ‘entry' 70hp 5070M, the range-topping 100hp 5100M listing at £41,930. By way of comparison, an entry-level 5100R carries a tag of £46,537. Replacing the existing 5015 range, the 80-100hp 5G series includes 5GH high clearance and reduced width 5GF and 5GV variants for fruit and vineyard applications. 5G is powered by the same engine as the 5M, but drive through 12F/12R 30km/hr and 24F/24R 40km/hr boxes. Prices for a livestock-orientated 5090G start at £37,590. Completing the line-up, the Indian-built 5E cab-less tractors span 55 to 75hp.
