LAMMA: Foam locks in weed killer heat |
Using heat to kill weeds in vegetables is not a new concept but LAMMA saw the introduction of a system which uses a combination of hot water and a foam covering to make the heat last longer. Foamstream has been developed by Cambs-based WeedingTech and uses an 80 kVA pto driven generator to heat water which has an added foaming agent. Applied inter-row using low pressure nozzles at a rate of 400 litres/acre, use of the system is claims to reduce weeding costs for vegetable growers particularly where there is a high degree of hand weeding.
