LAMMA: Charging up the sprayer |
Electrostatic spraying using negatively charged droplets of chemical solution to be attracted to a positively charged plant – was given another airing at Lamma by Lensmate which now distributes the US-sourced ESS system. Using a nozzle fed by pressurised air to atomise the liquid, the negative charge is induced by an electrode at the exit of the nozzle. ESS claims the electrical charge pulls the liquid towards the plant at 75 times the force of gravity and also creates a ‘wrap-round’ coverage. Less chemical waste, reduced application rates and better coverage are included in the advantages listed for the system.
