Italian tractor maker expands Indian operation

SAME Deutz-Fahr has expanded its production plant in Ranipet, India, and is also introducing its Deutz-Fahr brand to the Indian market. The enlargement of the Ranipet factory, in which SD-F already manufactures tractors of 40-75hp and three-/four-cyl engines, hikes maximum annual production capacity to 11,000 tractors and 15,000 engines. In 2008 the total tractor production in Ranipet increased by 28% to nearly 4,000 units and, for this year, the firm plans to introduce a new 65-75hp tractor platform with a Tier III engine for export markets. To give some idea of the sales potential in India, the country's tractor market is the largest in the world with a total sales volume of 310,000 units in 2008.
