Grain Event: On the move protein check

Sinar Technology is now offering a protein and moisture testing kit for combines. Manufactured by Zeltex the Accu Harvest takes a sample from the clean grain elevator four to five times per minute and uses an infrared sensor to measure the amount of protein and moisture. The £6,000 Accu Harvest system requires a GPS input so the information can be recorded to create a map showing the variations in protein levels. Sinar Technology says farmers can then use this information to try and improve protein levels. For those already operating one of the company's AP6060 moisture analysers (pictured) there is now a calibration kit available. M Cal comes complete with a reference sample that is placed in the analyser and connected to the accompanying software. The user then follows a step by step recalibration procedure. A new reference sample is sent out every six months.
