Manually coupling up to and uncoupling from implements is one of the riskier and more time-consuming areas of tractor operation, but not for much longer.
Valtra is working on a system for front-mounted kit that allows it to be attached from the safety of the tractor cab. Called LH AutoLink, the design also enables the pto, hydraulics and electrics to be coupled without the driver having to leave their seat.
GKN Walterscheid is also working on an automatic coupling system (pictured) for both front and rear implements, including hydraulic and electric connections. For now its first step allows operators to connect up the rear pto from the cab. Labelled Power-Lock, connection is automatic provided the user has aligned the linkage arms correctly and it will be offered in limited numbers to farmers and contractors in Germany for real life assessment.
