Average new tractor size approaches 140hp
Jan 13, 2009 #460
The average size of tractor sold in 2008 in the UK is calculated at 138.1hp, according to the Agricultural Engineers’ Association (AEA). That represents an increase of more than 4hp, or 3.1%, on 2007 statistics. Total power sold is estimated to be 1.23 million horsepower, which is the highest UK level for at least 30 years. The AEA adds that this 'total power sold' has probably only ever been exceeded in the 1976 boom year when nearly 38,000 tractors were retailed within the UK, albeit those 1976 units being of an average hp less than half that of today’s figure.
