Agritechnica: Tyre pressure adjustment on the move
Fendt reckons to have the first factory-fitted tyre pressure control system that’s fully integrated into its host vehicle. Awarded a silver medal at Agritechnica, the system is due to debut on high-hp Fendt 900-series tractors towards the end of 2010 and may subsequently appear on lower hp models further into the future.

Using the system couldn’t be simpler, says Fendt. Altering the tyre pressure just requires the operator to push a button on the in-cab Vario Terminal. Pressure is capable of reducing at a rate of 1 bar in two minutes and increasing by 1 bar in less than seven minutes.

The manufacturer says the main advantage of the system is that there's now no excuse for running a tractor at anything less or more than the optimum pressure. On the road that means better stability, less rolling resistance and less tyre wear; in the field it should result in less compaction, improved traction and reduced wheelslip. Overall, a 10% reduction in fuel consumption is claimed.
