Agritechnica: Bridging the spader/drill gap

Imants has developed a rear tyre packer and linkage system for its spading machines. The Dutch firm’s Rob Baken explains that, with the 57 spading machine coming in at 4.2t and the 8t or more of tractor, the outfit is getting on the heavy side so that any extra packer needs to be self-supporting. And by fitting a 3t rear linkage to this extra trailed unit, it’s also able to carry a drill.
The 3m trailed packer on display at Agritechnica places 12 x 145/65 R15 tyres in a staggered row, while a novel hydraulic steering system keeps the towed equipment in line, even when starting a headland turn.
The packer adds €20,000 to the €56,000 price tag of a 57-series spader – the heavy-duty model in the Imants range.
