Agritechnica: McHale adopts a variable approach

Irish manufacturer McHale now has a variable-chamber round baler. And with good reason. As the firm's Paul McHale points out, there is an even split in the European market between variable- and fixed-chamber balers. One of the largest markets, for example, is France, where 5,500 out of the total 7,000 round baler sales are accounted for by variable-chamber machines.
Testing of the McHale V660 started in New Zealand last year, and a number of units have also been in action throughout Europe. Crop is gathered in by a 2.0m wide pick-up and is then passed through the 15-knife chopping system. With the material now inside the machine, the V660's chamber uses three belts to produce bales measuring from 0.7m in diameter up to 1.68m.
As for the future, don't rule out the possibility of seeing a McHale variable-chamber baler wrapper combi.
