A spot of housekeeping has been applied to the Puma line up with the introduction of the Puma 125 and new styling for the 140 and 155 models bringing them into line with the 165 to 225 tractors. Farmers and contractors will have more options to choose from and improved fuel economy is also being promised.

The Puma 140 and 155 get an increase in the amount of boost available – the 140 now has an additional 24hp on tap while the Puma 155 can muster an extra 25 horses when boost is engaged so absolute maximum power is now 175hp and 193hp. To achieve the increased power outputs the cooling pack has been increased in size.

Although power boost was available when using the hydraulics on some Puma models it is now featured throughout the range.

Changes in the transmission department on the Puma 140 and 155 models means owners now specify a six speed semi-powershift which is also fitted to the new Puma 125. This is a £3,400 saving over the full powershift ‘box which also sees the electric spool valve controls being exchanged for mechanical levers. In the 40km/hr version this has a total of 18 forward and six reverse gears while the 50km/hr tractors get an additional forward ratio.

Fuel efficiency has been improved for pto work by up to 11.6% on all Puma models. This has been made possible by lowering the engine speed form 2,150 to 1,900rpm where the 540 and 1,000rpm pto speeds are now reached. Product specialist, Michael Gillen points out that by reducing the engine speed to 1,900rpm means the tractor is also working at its peak power band. He adds that by selecting 540E and 1,000E farmers can reduce fuel consumption by 15.6%.
