Among the big news for 2010 is the introduction of the PA6085 and the 6585T which are part of a new family to use Domex steel. Compared to their mild steel predecessors the reduction in weight is enough that both the 6.0m and 6.5m reach machines can be three-point linkage or axle mounted.
Both machines also benefit from a new 85hp gear pump. McConnel says this is a much simpler set-up than the piston pump it has used on other machines to achieve this level of power.
Another design feature of the new models is an integrated debris blower. This is positioned behind the rear panel and draws air in through the same grill as the oil cooler which is standard fitment.
The fixed arm of the PA6085 can be swapped for a variable forward reach version while the PA6585T only comes with a telescopic boom. Both models slew their arms to the rear for transport and there is a new adjustable support arm/stop. This moves with the arm as it slews from its work to transport position and a turnbuckle allows the operator to set the stop so the arm does not come into contact with the tractor cab roof.
On the control side of things there is a new version of the XTC box. As before there is proportional control of the main arm and more refined on/off thumb wheels for other functions. This box also allows soft start up of the rotor, a feature which will be rolled out to other models in the future.
